The Pantone Scene Series

Pantone Postcards

In the beginning of 2016, after feeling uninspired, I came across a box set of 100 Pantone postcards at Hyatt’s Art Supply. It inspired me to think about how I could mix my photography and these color matching swatches. Graphic designers and anyone working in the print industry use a color matching system called Pantone to ensure color consistency. I’ve developed a nerdy kind of love for the Pantone color matching system and I get excited when I see Pantone products. I am also fascinated by color theory and color psychology. The psychology of color is based on the mental and emotional effects colors have on sighted people in all facets of life. There are variations in interpretation, meaning, and perception between different cultures.

Artist Statement

The Pantone Scenes series is an on-going project challenging myself to create interesting, weird, and fun aesthetics using Pantone swatch postcards to match my surroundings or something in it.

An Evolving Project

What started out as matching a color in my specific environment out in the world turned into a desire for cleaner aesthetics. I wanted simple compositions, distraction-free backgrounds, anything to make the color pop – as it is the star of the show. I’m finding though I enjoy mixing environmental and studio work for this series. I love the process and my goal is to create around 25 solid images using my favorite colors from the 100 ct. box set. Check out the project page to view the entire series so far.
