Pantone 17-1564 Fiesta (BTS)

What is the Pantone Scene series?

It’s an on-going personal photography project challenging myself to create interesting, weird, and fun aesthetics using Pantone swatch postcards to match my surroundings or something in it. Check out my earlier post here, it includes more about what the Pantone color matching system is and what sparked the project.

When I was a kid, my mother showed me that other people’s disposed items could become someone else’s treasure. She would get satisfaction from repurposing and recycling items that neighbors would discard. Needless to say, to this day, I have no shame for “garbage picking”.

I came home one day last week and noticed a restaurant throwing away 10+ metal patio stools in good condition. Score! I also knew I had a Pantone match for it. It is now in our front door entryway as a surface for our keys and outgoing mail. We have all white walls so this stool adds a spectacular pop of color.

Behind The Scenes

I knew I wanted harder shadows so I had fun playing with a hard light source and trying different angles to get the shadow to appear where I wanted.

I don’t usually mention my gear or lighting equipment in my blog posts, but Sekonic, I love you. When you can spend more time executing your creative idea instead of chimping the camera screen and making adjustments to see if the exposure is right, photography is so much more fun.
